Creating the coderian podcast

By Edwin Sierra, Mobile Development Lead at Coderio.

A big challenge for companies that work remotely is to build a sense of community. Geographical distance can be an obstacle to create strong bonds that, as we all know, are essential in everyday work.

Reducing those distances has become a goal for every company operating online. Some of the tools and resources to bridge the gap are sharing photos of our pets, the workplace or travels, using recognition platforms to reinforce the company’s internal culture, and planning activities with those who live nearby.

Another great way to be close while working remote is through the universal language: music. Team members can share songs or playlists in the company’s different channels: group chats, discord, slack, etc., so that everyone can listen to the same music while they carry out their tasks.

At Coderio we wanted to go beyond, so in this spirit, we have created our own profile on Spotify that grows daily; also, an official podcast has been born by the initiative of the ambassadors’ team. This beautiful project devised by our dream team produced a series of audios consisting of a compilation of news and updates from the IT sector.

The power of voice

First things first: what is a podcast? It is an episodic series of audio files a user can download to a personal device or listen to online. Today, there are multiple streaming platforms. The best known is Spotify, which currently has 422 million subscribers worldwide, both in its free and paid versions.

Inspired by the radio and its irrefutable success as a mass media, podcasts recover that magic, often intimate and private, which is shared and enjoyed by everyone thanks to the power of the voice.

Podcasts can be microprograms of no more than 5 minutes in length on various topics, interviews, reports, or small news snippets. The latter is the case of Tech Pill.

Creating the Coderio podcast

With the idea of creating content besides the written one, the ambassadors’ team proposed the creation of a podcast. The idea is to connect, in each episode, not only the company’s collaborators but everyone else who is interested in the IT world.

In that sense, names were thought to represent that spirit. After several proposals, the most voted was Tech Pill, based on the idea of transmitting the perfect dose of news and novelties from the techie world for lovers of programming, development, design, and entertainment.

The next step was to get to work and start a little research on the platforms that would allow us to store and distribute the content. We analyzed several: Anchor, RedCicle, Spotify, Apple, Google. Then, we held meetings with some contacts who knew how to guide us in this first stage. Our special thanks to Juan Pedro Manzano, from “Más Atlético” and Atahualpa Sánchez, from “We don’t test it.”

Continuing with the search for references and guides for this process, we requested professional advice for the editing part. So we hired a pair of editors who, with their creativity and knowledge, composed an exclusive musical theme for Coderio. There were several incredible ideas until we found one with which we felt identified. Great job from Magdalena Lemos and Luciana Roberto!

Our colleague and ambassador, Corina Rodríguez, who has a background in journalism, lent us her voice. Almost everything was ready.

Piano, piano

In this first stage, we have agreed to create an Anchor account to upload the content and link it to the profile that _coderio already has on Spotify. On it, there is a curated playlist our collaborators listen to while they work.

In the future, we will continue to provide content -such as thematic playlists- and add platforms -such as Google and Apple, as well as venturing into other formats for the program: hand-in-hand interviews, coverage, reviews, and chronicles of events in the sector.

The creative team

The coderian ambassadors’ committee is an initiative that aims to transmit the values, spirit, and objectives of the company throughout different channels, highlighting the experience of those who know the most: its members.

As speakers of the brand, we seek to collaborate in the proposal and implementation of joint actions, such as participation in industry events, the preparation of articles of professional interest, posts on social media, and the recent creation of the Tech Pill podcast, among many others.

In our weekly meetings, we contribute and select the topics and trends of the moment to write the script for the next episode. Although there are no limitations, we prioritize the news related to the world around us based on our profession: news, upcoming events, global context, jobs, releases, and programming updates. We are very excited about this project. It was created to bridge the gap among our collaborators working in different places and time zones but, at the same time, connected by common interests. Tech Pill aims at bringing together every coderian out there. Click here to play it.
